IDN domain names are composed of the following special characters, in addition to the usual characters: à, á, â, ã, ä, å, æ, ç, è, é, ê, ë, ì, í, î, ï, ñ, ò, ó, ô, õ, ö, œ, ù, ú, û, ü, ý, ÿ, ß. An accented (internationalized) domain name is a domain name that can contain characters not defined by the ASCII standard.
They allow for the characters needed for writing most Western European languages, regional or minority languages, and some characters not belonging to the Latin alphabet.

The standard defining names does not allow such characters. Hence the principle of the IDNA protocol (Internationalized Domain Names in Applications): accented domain names are converted into an ASCII domain. For example, www.académie-française.fr will be converted to www.xn--acadmie-franaise-npb1a.fr.
It is possible to buy accented domain names in .com, .fr... That is, names with é, à, è, ç, ê inside. This, in theory, offers the possibility to position yourself on competitive keywords currently registered without accents. For example, you could reserve a domain like courskaraté.com.
If you already have a domain with a name or expression that can contain accents, it is important to reserve this domain with and without accents. Indeed, there is nothing more annoying than having a cybersquatter register it in your place. The accented domain name should not be your main domain name. It should be used as part of a defensive strategy against competitors.
Having a domain name with accents can be a good way to improve your SEO, as the domain name is one of the major factors for achieving a good ranking on Google.
If you want to save time when buying domain names, we have the ideal tool.
LWS offers you your free domain name!
Many generic top-level extensions (.COM, .NET…) or country extensions (.FR, .CH, .EU…) allow the registration of accented characters in their domain names. These are IDNs (Internationalized Domain Name). These domains offer other characters than the historical ASCII. Some extensions accept certain accented characters and not others. The LWS registrar sells several extensions accepting domains with accents.
In addition to standard characters, IDN domain names can be composed of the following special characters: à, á, â, ã, ä, å, æ, ç, è, é, ê, ë, ì, í, î, ï, ñ, ò, ó, ô, õ, ö, œ, ù, ú, û, ü, ý, ÿ, ß. Your website can thus be accessible via a domain with the correct pronunciation. Broaden your horizons to find a domain name thanks to these permissive naming solutions.
IDNs allow you to write internet addresses without spelling mistakes and with the correct pronunciation of the word, such as:
Be careful not to register a domain name containing a trademark registered with the INPI!
Accents can be used to create all kinds of domain names. Currently, all browsers adapt or convert special characters to the respective languages.
When registering your accented domain, you do not need to do anything extra, use your domain name with its accents like a classic domain.
It is possible to register an accented domain name (in .fr, .com...) but it is not common for internet users to enter accents in website addresses. However, reserving the variant of your domain with one or more accents allows you to redirect visitors who made a mistake by putting an accent in the URL to your main domain. It also prevents others from reserving a domain identical to yours but with an accent, as they could divert some of your traffic.
